If you’re one of the many people suddenly working from home I’ve created something just for you. A list of my 5 favourite tips for working from home.
Working From Home
I’ve had the freedom to work from home for most of my career and while the laptop lifestyle has tremendous benefits, one risk of remote working is the potential to feel lonely, depressed or isolated. I don’t want you to feel this way.
As the CEO of a virtual company and someone who has been successful at working from home since my first remote role in 2006, I really get this. I’ve been there. I lived on my own and worked remotely for YEARS and it’s been hard at times but I learned some really good ways to overcome this.
5 of my fave tips for getting your groove on working from home.
1. Add Some Chatter
There is nothing lonelier than working in complete silence every day. It sounds simple but I recommend playing music or a TV show in the background while you work. I find that when I do this, I also feel more productive.
2. Establish a Routine
Starting and maintaining a positive daily routine gives you structure, builds forward-moving habits, and creates momentum for the rest of the day.
3. Create an Optimal Workspace
Don’t turn your entire home into your office or start emailing from bed as when you bring workplace stress and anxiety into your bedroom, you’re setting yourself up for insomnia and poor sleep.
4. Use technology as a means of connection
Set up conference calls using applications such as FaceTime or Zoom. Our brains have a special section (Fusiform Gyrus) used to recognise faces and facial expression… And for a reason. When you can visually see someone’s face, your communication improves, and in turn, it creates a bond and connection that you would not otherwise get.
5. Enjoy an after-work class
Now more than ever classes in cooking, dancing, meditation and more are coming online. Switch off from work and enjoy learning something new with a community of likeminded souls.
We’re in this together. Reach out if you need some help.
Love,
