So you’re posting lots of pictures and looking at plenty of other people’s feeds, now what? Is that crickets I hear?! Today I’m talking 5 mistakes you’re making on Instagram that is costing you clients – yikes!
1. YOU DON’T HAVE A REAL STRATEGY
Listen: When using Instagram for your business you gotta have a strategy! Posting aimlessly is a waste of your valuable time. Get smart. Know why you’re posting, set your GOALS and use INSIGHTS to measure your success then double down on what’s working.
2. YOU SELL TOO OFTEN
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants to be sold to all the time. If your posts are continuously coming across as a sales pitch, your audience will zone out. The best way to build trust and give people a reason to follow you is to offer them VALUE and provide content that positions you as a leader in your industry.
3. YOU’RE NOT BEING SOCIAL
So you want people to engage with your content? You want all the likes, comments, saves and shares? But are you doing the same to others? Don’t post and ghost. Be social. Instagram is great for building connections. Spend time genuinely engaging with others.
4. YOU’RE NOT SHOWING UP ON STORIES
Stories are great for starting conversations, humanising your brand, and getting real-time feedback straight from your target audience.
If you’re not using them you’re missing a HUGE opportunity. So have fun, get creative and you’ll get engagement.
5. YOU’RE USING OVER SATURATED HASHTAGS
Any hashtag with over 2 million posts associated with it is too big. When you add this hashtag to your photo, your image may appear in the tag for a split second but is almost immediately BURIED by hundreds of other images that were added to the tag at the same time.
My suggestion? Try tags between 5,000 – 500,000.
